"Working with Annemieke has breathed new life into my horsemanship and relationship with my horse. Through her knowledge of correct posture, good horsemanship, and classical dressage she has helped Marley and me become much happier, more balanced, and making progress in 'problem' areas that had once felt insurmountable. I walk away from every lesson with new ideas, knowledge, and perspectives to help us succeed. Annemieke is kind, caring, always puts the horse first, and pushes me to be the person my horse deserves!"

"I am extremely privileged to have Annemieke to teach me and my horses the true meaning of horsemanship. She sees each horse as a unique individual and takes the time to know, understand, and communicate with each one personally. Her techniques use gentleness, lightness, and kindness to bring out the best in horses and humans. After 50 years of riding I have become disappointed, and at times horrified, by competitive dressage. I don’t enjoy watching it and I am sure that neither the horse or rider loves doing it. We have taken this beautiful, sensitive animal that as a creature of prey is finely tuned to every nuance of its environment and train with harshness and force. A horse can feel a fly land anywhere on their body. So why do we need to use physical strength and severe bits and spurs to make them do what we want? Annemieke uses neuropsychology and physiology to unlock the secrets of the horse’s behavior and in doing so she creates a mutual partnership based on gentleness, quietness, and kindness. It is a slow process but it is very fulfilling and rewarding. She does not go for easy fixes or short cuts. She is not concerned about winning competitions or selling horses or promoting her methods. I have a much richer relationship with my horses now and they are happy and eager to work with me. As an added bonus, the things I have learned are as equally applicable to humans as they are to horses! She has given me better insight into my horses and myself."

"After regaining my riding ability after brain cancer, I needed some retraining for my mare, who had 5 years off shortly after being started. She’s an anxious horse, so 5 years was a long time for her. Thanks to Annemieke, my horse is now being ridden and standing quietly at the mounting block. After the surgery & radiation to my brain, my balance was affected, which is an added responsibility to my horse when I ride her. Annemieke has made all of this possible! She is the most kind, caring & patient trainer for her. She makes sure my horse is relaxed before and after asking her anything. My horse and I are both so thankful for Annemieke!"

"Annemieke has been an incredible addition to our training program for my daughter Zoe and her pony Paizlee. She has been able to guide this partnership to help them understand each other more clearly. Paizlee has anxiety due to previous trauma and this type of relationship building has been a cornerstone for their future success. Zoe has grown as a horsewoman in a holistic way due to our dedicated time with Annemieke. This was the missing piece to Zoe's already incredible foundation-- she now understands biomechanics and the impacts of even the smallest change/movement to her ride. Zoe's learning from Annemieke has allowed a 9 y/o to work with a green pony successfully and helped her to develop long term skills with in-hand that are often overlooked in a typical training program. You will not regret adding Annemieke to your program, in any capacity, and because these types of skills that she can teach you will help you create an overall better experience for you and your equine partner."

"In only a few lessons, Annemieke has helped my horse and me to better connect and communicate. We went from performing movements under pressure to training with ease and lightness as partners. Annemieke combines her knowledge of classical dressage with proper biomechanics, horsemanship, and emotional wellness to provide clear explanations with beautiful results. She has a gentle but effective touch. I can't say enough good things about her refreshingly kind and gentle approach to training and teaching."

"Before Annemieke started working with my horse and I, we were really struggling to understand each other and communicate in a healthy way. Annemieke showed me what my horse was capable of and comfortable with sharing with me and our bond is immensely stronger! We look forward to our personalized training sessions every week and love the work Annemieke does! "

"Annemieke has been working with my horse, Leo, and I for several months now, and I am so happy with the results. I'm learning to understand and communicate with Leo on a deeper level, while he is overcoming past trauma, learning to carry himself, and becoming a more confident, relaxed horse. Leo seems to enjoy the challenges that he is given. Annemieke gives great feedback and genuinely cares about the horses she works with. She is a trainer that has a natural talent for working with horses. I would highly recommend training with her."

"You can’t go wrong with Annemieke with training your horse. I had a horse I needed to move in a short amount time. My horse was refusing to go in the trailer, and I was getting very concerned as I wasn’t making much progress on my own. I contacted Annemieke and she was able to come to my farm and work with my horse several times a week and got my horse going in the trailer comfortably. Annemieke is the most patient person I have met. She’s also responsible, caring and very gentle. "

I so appreciate your teaching style and gentle, welcoming energy. You are so very much like a horse - honest, perceptive, and intuitive. Horses understand that about you and easily accept you into their herds. Yours is a rare gift. I am thankful that Rocky and I have benefited from it.

"Annemieke Buis has been working with me and three of my horses since August 30, 2023. First we focused on one of my rescues, uncovering his past trauma in his previous life and giving him new ways to work through his method of compensating for that trauma. What a transformation! Not only has this horse benefitted from her attention and approach to the real him, he also benefits daily from what I have learned from her. My own horsemanship skills have quantified! I feel my investment in him is what I promised when I adopted him and it is what he deserves! He is becoming a horse that I consider priceless! We have only scratched the surface with my other two horses, but I have no doubt great things are in store for my herd!"

Maxx and I moved to Sage Knoll Farm in search of a community where we belonged, where the relationship with the horse and trust between partners was most important than the horse, and where it was okay to have feelings and not be perfect. So far, here, we’ve learned that we don’t have to be anxious before a lesson and it’s okay to mess up. We’ve learned it’s okay to just listen to each other and change our plans according to what we are prepared to learn that day. We’re learning how to trust each other in the hopes that one day we can do anything together, no matter how scary.

My horse, Santigo, and I have just spent 6 months on Sage Knoll Farm with Annemieke working on his nervous system dysregulation. She also worked with me to improve my skill level reading his signs of stress and appropriately responding them. The difference in my relationship with my horse and his comfort level in most situations is so improved I am tempted to use the word miraculous. The wonderful bonus I gained during my journey was how much I learned about horse needs, health, care and personalities. I learned the importance of having my horse biomechanically balanced to keep him safe and comfortable. Annemieke also addressed my riding skills to improve our ability to work as a team when I am on the ground and on his back. Her level of knowledge and experience is top notch and she is a gentle and compassionate teacher to both horses and humans.
